Carbon Reduction Plan
DDP’s Carbon Reduction Plan outlines our team’s specific aspirations surrounding reducing our carbon footprint, detailing how we will achieve our ambitious targets. We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and helping others to do the same.
Commitment to Sustainability
DDP recognises the importance of reducing carbon emissions, even as a fully remote organisation. While our operations have a lower environmental footprint compared to traditional office-based businesses, we are committed to minimising our impact through conscious decision-making and sustainable practices.
Carbon Reduction Target
DDP’s Target: To reduce our carbon footprint by 40% by 2030, in line with Australia's national goal of achieving net zero by 2050.
Key Focus Areas & Actions
Sustainable Technology Use
Cloud Computing Efficiency:
Use cloud providers with a net zero commitment, such as Microsoft Azure (carbon-neutral by 2030) or AWS (100% renewable energy by 2025).
Consolidate cloud storage and delete unnecessary data to reduce energy usage.
Device Longevity & Recycling:
Extend the lifespan of company-provided laptops and devices to at least 5 years.
Encourage responsible e-waste recycling through certified programs (e.g., TechCollect, MobileMuster).
Energy-Efficient Settings:
Default to dark mode and energy-efficient power settings on all devices.
Remote Work Carbon Reduction
Sustainable Home Offices:
Provide guidance on using energy-efficient LED lighting, smart power strips, and eco-friendly office equipment.
Encourage staff to use renewable energy providers where available.
Eco-Friendly Internet Use:
Promote the use of energy-efficient routers and modems.
Business Travel & Offsite Meetings
Travel Reduction:
Maintain a remote-first culture and prioritise virtual meetings where possible.
Implement a policy to offset emissions for necessary flights.
Sustainable Transport:
Encourage the use of carpool, public transport, cycling, or electric vehicles (EVs) for any in-person business engagements.
Sustainable Procurement & Digital Practices
Paperless Operations:
Continue 100% digital workflows to eliminate paper waste.
Use electronic contracts, invoices, and cloud-based documentation.
Eco-Friendly Suppliers:
Choose vendors committed to sustainable practices for software, merchandise, and promotional materials.
Green Web Hosting:
Ensure websites are hosted on a carbon-neutral server.
Carbon Offsetting & Community Engagement
Tree Planting & Carbon Offsets:
Partner with Australian reforestation and carbon offset programs (e.g., Greenfleet, Carbon Neutral).
Employee Engagement:
Work towards incentives for staff to adopt personal carbon reduction habits (e.g., discounts for solar panels/EVs/public transport passes, and/or subsidisation of green electricity for home-offices, and/or energy audits of home offices).
Offer volunteer days for sustainability initiatives.
Offer pro-bono support to community organisations with an environmental and/or carbon neutrality remit.
Monitoring and Reporting
DDP conducts an annual carbon footprint assessment and adjusts it’s environmental strategies as needed.
